Why I Teach Intuitive Development Alongside Traditional Reiki
Oct 27, 2026
As a psychic medium, receiving intuitive guidance during a Reiki session felt natural to me. It was a familiar part of my experience, and for a long time I hadn’t considered how different that might feel for a practitioner without a background in psychic development or mediumship.
Then other Reiki practitioners began coming to me with questions.
They described sensing a presence, noticing an image or feeling they had received a message during a session. They weren’t sure what to make of these experiences. Some were curious, but others were confused or frightened.
Through those conversations, I recognised a gap. These practitioners needed a supportive space to talk about what they were noticing, ask questions and explore their experiences without feeling pressured to explain them immediately.
That is what led me to teach intuitive development alongside traditional Reiki, and what inspired my From Reiki to Mediumship course.
Moving From Fear Towards Understanding
An unfamiliar experience can feel unsettling when you don’t have a framework for understanding it.
In my teaching, I approach our inner senses as a natural part of intuitive awareness. But exploring that awareness doesn’t mean accepting every thought, sensation or image as a message. It means learning to notice, stay grounded and respond thoughtfully.
Grounding, opening and closing are central to my approach. They give students a structure for their practice and help them establish clear personal boundaries.
My aim is to help practitioners feel more confident in how they approach their experiences. They don’t need to have an immediate explanation for everything they notice.
Sometimes, being able to say, “This is what I experienced, and I’m still exploring what it means,” is a valuable place to begin.
Learning to Observe Before Interpreting
During my eight-week course, students practise in pairs. This gives them opportunities to explore their awareness through experience, with time for questions and reflection.
When we work on clairvoyance, for example, I ask students to describe the images, colours or impressions they notice without interpreting them.
That distinction matters.
Noticing a colour is one thing. Deciding what that colour means for another person is a separate step, and one that calls for care.
I want students to become comfortable describing what they actually notice, rather than feeling they must turn every impression into a complete message or story.
There is no need to force an experience. There is also room to notice very little, to feel uncertain or to discover that an initial interpretation doesn’t fit.
The practice is as much about listening and discernment as it is about receiving.
How Intuitive Development Can Support Reiki Practice
For me, the benefits of intuitive development extend beyond the impressions themselves. It offers an opportunity to develop a more thoughtful relationship with our own awareness.
Greater Confidence in Exploring Unfamiliar Experiences
When practitioners have somewhere to discuss their experiences and practise, they have an opportunity to become more comfortable with what once felt unfamiliar.
The aim is not to know everything. It is to have a grounded way to explore, ask questions and recognise when to pause.
A Clearer Distinction Between an Impression and an Interpretation
An image, sensation or thought does not arrive with a guaranteed explanation.
Learning to separate what we notice from what we think it means helps us avoid making assumptions about a client’s experience. It also allows us to remain curious without presenting our impressions as facts.
More Thoughtful Boundaries With Clients
Receiving an impression does not mean we have to share it.
Before offering an intuitive observation, I believe it is important to ask the client’s permission and respect their preferences. Someone who has booked Reiki may simply want a quiet session.
If an impression is shared, the client remains free to decide whether it has meaning for them. Their own understanding of their life should always be respected.
Keeping Traditional Reiki at the Heart of the Practice
I teach intuitive development alongside traditional Reiki because I see value in giving practitioners support for experiences they may wish to explore.
That does not mean intuitive impressions are a requirement for Reiki.
A practitioner does not need to see images, sense presences or receive messages to offer a meaningful Reiki session. Nor does every Reiki practitioner need to pursue mediumship.
For me, intuitive development should support our ability to remain present. It should never become pressure to perform, produce a message or turn a Reiki session into something the client has not requested.
Respect, care and clear boundaries remain central.
Why From Reiki to Mediumship Exists
From Reiki to Mediumship grew out of those early conversations with practitioners who wanted help understanding their experiences.
I wanted to create a space where questions were welcome and exploration could happen gradually.
Across eight weeks, we use pair work to practise noticing and describing intuitive impressions. Grounding, opening and closing provide a foundation, while observation without immediate interpretation encourages discernment.
The course is particularly relevant to Reiki practitioners who have noticed impressions during sessions and would like to explore them in a supportive setting. It is also for those who feel curious about intuitive development without already identifying as psychic or as a medium.
You do not need to arrive with a label for yourself or a clear idea of where the journey will lead.
An Invitation to Explore Your Awareness
What first felt obvious to me as a psychic medium became a teaching path because other practitioners helped me see what was missing: a place to talk openly, practise and develop understanding.
That remains the heart of why I teach this work.
I want practitioners to have the space to explore their awareness with curiosity, confidence and care, for themselves and for the people they support.
If this reflects your experience, or you feel drawn to explore the connection between Reiki and mediumship, I invite you to get in touch about From Reiki to Mediumship. You are welcome to ask questions and discover whether the course feels right for you.
